DENTAL IMPLANTS
If you have a missing tooth or teeth, or any which cannot be saved, dental implants may be the treatment of choice for you.
Replacement of one or more missing teeth is achieved by the surgical placement of a titanium screw into the bone of the upper or lower jaw. This implant is designed to fully integrate into the bone by allowing blood vessels and bone cells to grow right onto the implant surface. This provides the ‘root’ of the replacement tooth. A single crown or multiple-unit bridge is then manufactured by a highly-skilled laboratory technician, which then attaches to your implant or implants, and provides the final tooth or teeth. These restorations are aesthetically pleasing and functionally excellent, as well as being the best-known replacement for natural teeth we have to date.
Dr Axel Drews has undertaken extensive training in addition to his general dental training in order to gain the skills and knowledge required to provide you with an exceptional level of service.
We place Straumann implants, but also have experience with Astra and BioHorizons implant systems, so may be able to offer treatment to patients who have problems with their existing implants.
TELESCOPIC DENTURES
These may be recommended to you when you have some missing teeth but also some natural teeth which are suitable to use as ‘anchors’ for a denture. They are removable and offer much greater stability than conventional dentures. This is achieved by fitting ‘telescopic crowns’ to the remaining teeth which act as precise attachment points for the denture. Many people find this to be a comfortable and acceptable solution to the problem of missing teeth. The denture is also clasp-free, so it’s more aesthetically pleasing. This option is not routinely offered in the UK, but has been the gold standard in Germany for over 50 years, before being superseded by dental implants.
